Manny Pacquiao And Krista Ranillo

The wife of pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao was conspicuously absent during the boxer’s after-fight party in Los Angeles, California.

Jinkee and Manny reportedly had a spat over rumors about his alleged affair with actress Krista Ranillo.

In a Thanksgiving mass in Las Vegas after his successful match with Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico, Jinkee turned emotional in the middle of the priest’s homily.

A footage taken during the mass showed the inconsolable Jinkee shunning Manny’s attempt to comfort her. She instead turned to her female friend who was also sitting beside her.

In the Los Angeles party, Manny, who arrived 2 hours late, was not in his usual enthusiastic self. Nevertheless, he gave in to the demands of his fans to sing during the celebration.

According to Manny’s Canadian advisor, Michael Koncz, the new WBO welterweight champion was not feeling well. He said the Filipino boxer just had his ear checked by his doctor.

Australian oil spill recovery plan could take many years

Tthe clean-up monitoring of a huge oil spill in pristine Australian waters could take as long as seven years, an official said Wednesday as environmentalists urged a wide-ranging inquiry into the disaster.

As many as 28,000 barrels of oil have gushed into the Timor Sea off Western Australia's northern coast in the 10 weeks since the West Atlas oil rig began leaking, raising concerns of an environmental disaster.

Attempts to plug the hole were delayed by the need to bring equipment from Singapore, the difficulty of the operation some 2.6 kilometres (1.6 miles) below the seabed and a fierce inferno fuelled by the leak which erupted Sunday.

The rig's operator PTTEP Australasia said the clean-up would be carried out quickly after the oil and gas leak and the fire were shut down on Tuesday.

"I suspect a couple of months is what we are sort of anticipating," the company's Jose Martins said of the operation.

"The environmental plan really could take up to seven years."

Resources and Energy Minister Martin Ferguson, who has called for an inquiry into the incident, welcomed the news that the fire on the rig and the Montara wellhead platform had been extinguished.

"I think we are all relieved that what could have been a very dangerous situation hasn't seen any loss of life," the minister told state radio.

Environmentalists said stopping the flow was the first step in cleaning up the spill some 250 kilometres offshore, but called for any inquiry into the leak and fire to have wide-ranging powers.

"This is a major spill," WWF Australia's Ghislaine Llewellyn told AFP. "This is up in the top three in Australian history."

Llewellyn said the spill of oil and condensate combined with the dispersant used to control the slick had created a toxic cocktail which would have a long-term impact on the area's pristine tropical marine life.

Authorities said they were investigating whether oil from the rig could have washed up on Australia's northern coast.

Five British soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Five British soldiers have been shot dead by an Afghan policeman at a checkpoint in an incident which is now under investigation, officials said on Wednesday.

"The soldiers were all killed as a result of gunshot wounds sustained in an attack in the Nad-e?Ali district of Helmand Province during the afternoon of 3 November 2009," it said in a statement.

"The attack is subject to investigation."

Military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel David Wakefield said on BBC radio that the soldiers killed had been mentoring Afghan police and living inside the checkpoint.

"It would appear... that an individual Afghan national policeman, possibly acting in conjunction with another, started firing within the checkpoint," he said.

The incident brings to 229 the number of British troops who have been killed in Afghanistan.

It makes this the bloodiest year for the armed forces since the Falklands War in 1982.

Three of the soldiers were from the Grenadier Guards and two from the Royal Military Police. Families have been informed.

Dead Whale Shark "Butanding" found dead in Manila Bay

Local fishermen were surprised to see a whale shark or “butanding” in Manila Bay before dawn on Wednesday.

The fishermen spotted the 20 ft. long whale shark as they were going to the open sea at around 1:30 a.m.

The whale shark was floating on its belly and its fins were still flapping, the fishermen claimed. However, the whale shark died 10 minutes after it was brought to the shore.
The whale shark’s cause of death is still unknown. Coast guard members who arrived on the scene said they did not find injuries in their inspection except for a wound on the tail.

They said the wound could have been inflicted by the rope used to pull the whale shark which was tied around its tail.

Another whale shark, about 2 ft. long, was seen floating around the bigger whale shark while it was being pulled to the shore.
